Each of the world’s many wine regions has its own unique appeal, but not all wine regions are made equal. What each wine region offers is different; while some offer excellent wine and scenery, others offer just one of the two.
Of all the wine producing areas in the world, there is one that is a cut above the rest: Vienna. Situated in the Austrian countryside, the farmers of Vienna have been creating wine for centuries.
Made from red and white grapes wine producers create delicious bottles of red, white and sparkling wines. Most of Austria’s wine is produced in the east of the country, in the capital city of Vienna. In fact, to experience Austria’s fantastic wine culture, you don’t even have to leave the city.
Don’t believe us that Vienna is the best place to taste wine in the world? Here’s why Vienna is the perfect place to go wine tasting.
You can taste wine in a palace
For many wine lovers, tasting wine isn’t just about the flavours, it’s also about where you taste it. Being able to spend an afternoon tasting wine it what can only be described as a palace is an amazing experience.
Throughout the year, Vienna hosts many wine tasting festivals and events. During these festivals and events, many of the cities palaces are open to the public. If you can plan your trip for a time when one of these festivals is on, you will be able to sip wine in the room of one of Vienna’s stunning palaces.
Top tip: If you choose to visit Vienna during one of it’s famous wine festivals, make sure to book your accommodation in advance. To get an idea of all the best places to stay, have a look at Venere hotels. During these festivals, almost every room is booked out, so booking in advance is a must.
Plenty of vineyards within the city
Unlike any other capital city in the world, Vienna is lucky enough to have hundreds of vineyards within the city limits. The hills surrounding Vienna are dotted with vineyards that produce an amazing array of wines.
One of the best wines produced here is Gemischter Satz, a white wine that is made with around 20 different varieties of grape. This wine is known as one of the world’s more unique and flavoursome wines ever produced, so is definitely worth a try.
If you do decide that you want to travel a little further than the limits of Vienna, there are also many other vineyards outside the city.
There are wine bars everywhere
Wine bars with unbelievably long wine lists exist all over the country, but the best wine bars are, of course, situated in Vienna. Throughout this metropolitan city you will find hundreds of wine bars to drink and dine in.
Many of Vienna’s wine bars are run by the farmers, themselves, so you know you are getting an authentic wine. As well as serving wine by the flask or glass, many of these wine bars also serve light bites, accompanied by live music.
Of all the places in the world that wine is created, there is something special about Austrian wine. While you can taste wine throughout the country, Vienna is the best place to do so. If there is anywhere you are going to go for a wine tasting trip, Vienna has to be the place.
